After a poor start in 1865, a firm that was hired to take charge of track laying. The firm got the tracks moving westward. This established a huge and varied labor force.
In 1865 Dodge was scouting an area in the Laramie Mountains and discovered a pass where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. This flat stretch permitted a turntable to be built.
Grenville Dodge chose Cheyenne as the division point for the Transcontinental Railroad. A city was born and along with it growing pains and challenges.
