This SciGirls video shows the girls researching to determine what type of puppet they would like to create. The girls take inspiration for their puppet design from existing puppets. The SciGirls use a combination of their previous knowledge, what other designers are creating, and mechanical examples found in the puppet attic to start thinking about their puppet.

The SciGirls are brainstorming the different mechanics that will be used to move the puppet. Brainstorming is the process of idea generation and works really well when done in a group. The SciGirls are creating their own giant pig puppet and begin planning their puppet and thinking about how the mechanics will work together.

SciGirls | Insulation Station 04: Prototype Testing

This SciGirls video demonstrates the advantages of having a mentor who works in the field in helping the girls brainstorm and make a plan. Seeing women who have succeeded in STEM helps inspire and motivate girls, especially when they can relate to these mentors as people with lives outside of their job. The SciGirls rely on their mentor to help them begin to plan their project and walk them through the design process of creating, testing, redesigning, and testing.

This SciGirls video is a good example of getting user feedback on a new mobile media app. Then the girls use great teamwork skills to fix all the problems. When creating a mobile media app or any game it's important to do some user testing to see how well it functions. The SciGirls battle frustrating issues when testing and make a plan to fix them. Using a great teamwork strategy they troubleshoot and fix all their problems like pros.

SciGirls | Robots to the Rescue! 01: Mentor Moment

This SciGirls video demonstrates how to develop a question and procedure for testing how well restored oyster reefs are working. Oysters in the Chesapeake Bay are dying off so restored oyster reefs are being created. The SciGirls decide to do an experiment to test how well they are working. See how they develop their question and procedure for this experiment with the help of an oceanographer.
