In this video segment from Cyberchase the CyberSquad is shooting a film. On their fourth day of filming, they hope to shoot an extra scene, which means their film supply costs will go up. They look at their budget and find that if they lower their crew costs, they can film the extra scene without going over their budget for the day.

## Keeping Track of the New York City Marathoners

In this video segment from Cyberchase, Bianca has volunteered to help count the number of runners participating in the New York City Marathon. She must keep track of the runners as they pass a certain checkpoint on the course. There are at least 30,000 runners, so she has to develop a good strategy for counting such a large number of people. She tests out a few options, but finds that an abacus may be her best tool.

## Sharing Candy Among Gargoyles

In this video segment from Cyberchase, the CyberSquad must divide up thirty-five pieces of rock candy evenly among seven gargoyles in order to stop Hacker’s control over the gargoyles. Jackie suggests that they figure it out by sharing the pieces of rock candy in rounds, but Inez has a better idea. She thinks that using numbers will allow them to solve the problem faster.

## Estimating Costs, Estimating Profits

In this video segment from TV411, Franklin works with Laverne to create a budget and understand his pay for a job painting a room. Franklin is not sure if he should take on a job where he will be paid \$250 for painting a friend’s family room. He must take into consideration the cost of supplies as well as how long the job will take him. He consults with Laverne and realizes he has to make some estimates to come up with the budget for the job.

## Predicting Travel Time Using Line Graphs

In this Cyberchase video segment, Harry wants to visit his grandmother. He decides that the cheapest way for him to get there is to travel by unicycle, but he wonders if he can get there before dark. Using a line graph, he tries to predict the amount of time it will take to travel the twenty miles, assuming he travels at a constant speed. Once he sets out on his unicycle, he charts his progress on a new line graph. After the first hour he appears to be ahead of schedule, but he is not able to keep up the pace and soon finds himself falling behind.

They compete with each other to see who can sell the most snacks, and they report their sales using bar graphs. When their graphs are compared, it appears that Harry has sold more, but Bianca is not so sure, so she takes a closer look at the scale of each graph.

## Planning a Paper Route

Harry agrees to take over his brother Pete's paper route for a week. After starting the job, he realizes the route was not planned out very well. He tries to rework it by analyzing the list of addresses. After making some adjustments to his list, he is able to create a new, easier and more efficient route.

## Balancing Equations with Multiple Terms | Cyberchase

First, they must balance a scale to get the correct numeric access code. In order to do that they have to balance a scale using four weights on each side. They soon learn that adding or removing the same weight from each side does not upset the balance of the scale.

In this video segment from Cyberchase, the CyberSquad must measure two differently-shaped parcels of land to determine which has a larger area. The CyberSquad uses tarps, fence posts, and finally a grid made out of rope to count squares and determine the area of each parcel.

To get the next clue from Grubby, they must use a fraction to describe their share of a box of worms. In doing so, they learn to identify the denominator as the number of parts that make up a whole and the numerator as their share of the parts.
