## Scale City: Greetings from Sky-Vue Drive-In

Icon:

Greetings from Sky-Vue Drive-In takes students on a tour through the history of drive-in theaters and a visit to one that's still open and thriving in Winchester, Kentucky. Looking at shadows through the drive-in movie projector introduces the relationship of a shadow's size to its distance from the light source.

## Points of Origin

Icon:

This animation from KET illustrates how an origin is used for positive and negative measurement along a straight line and on a flat plane. It also shows how an origin, latitude, and longitude identify locations on Earth and explores how measuring temperature differs from measuring height or weight.

## ¡Arte y más! Lesson 42

Icon:

Together we sing the “Hola” song, and then Sra. Alicia and Susana greet each other and sing the first verse and introduce the second verse of “Líneas,” which the students echo. Sra. Alicia introduces the Joan Miró painting “Lección de esquí” (“Ski Lesson”). She asks students to look for different types of lines in the painting and introduces the concept of shapes. As she points at a shape, she explains that a shape is the space enclosed by lines. We are further introduced to shapes by examining el cuadrado (the square) and el triángulo (the triangle). Finally, to review numbers, shapes, and sizes, Sra. Alicia sorts triangles and squares. The students are invited to count the large and small shapes. The lesson closes with the “Adios” song.

## Tangrams | Everyday Learning

Icon:

Lots of familiar things can be made with the same simple shapes. This stop motion animation introduces tangrams to young students, while illustrating how shapes like triangles, rectangles, and parallelograms can create a variety of colorful animals.

## Shapes All Around Me | Everyday Learning

Icon:

This video from KET helps preschool students identify the shapes that surround them every day so that they can begin building a foundation for skills they will need in the future. Children often view shapes as play things like blocks and other toys. But being able to identify basic shapes and how they relate to each other is the foundation for understanding more complex geometrical and problem solving concepts.

## WorkKeys Applied Mathematics | Level 5

Icon:

Level 5 of the WorkKeys Applied Mathematics assessment requires learners to solve multi-step problems. These videos and worksheets are designed to help learners apply mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques to work-related problems.

These resources are part of KET’s Applied Mathematics: Resources for WorkKeys® and GED® Preparation collection.

## Measurement: Area

Icon:

In this video, viewers learn how to calculate area. Area is the measure of the surface inside a flat figure. Area is measured in square units. Multiply the length times the width to get the square units.

This video segment is from the GED Connection "Measurement" video.
